Three Cement Facts and a (lame) Joke

Three Cement Facts and a Joke

WHERE DOES CEMENT ORIGINATE?

Five states produce nearly 50% of all the cement made in America.  They are California, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania and our own state of Missouri.

CEMENT SAFETY TIP

Cement is caustic.  It can burn skin and eyes, just like acid.  Wear gloves and a respirator when working with cement.  Rinse well with water in the case of contact.

HOW IS CEMENT DIFFERENT FROM CONCRETE?

Cement is just one of the ingredients in concrete.  It is activated by water and holds everything together.  Though it was used for a time in the ancient world, modern day cement was developed by a British stonemason named Joseph Aspdin in the 19th century when he heated a mix of ground limestone and clay in his kitchen and then pulverized it into a fine powder.  He received a patent for it in 1824.

CEMENT JOKE

An English teacher and a construction worker were having an argument.  It ended when they got bogged down in cementics (semantics).
